Hello, am Dr Dapo Majekodunmi a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist and Medical Director of St. Nicholas Hospital, a position I was appointed to in 2000.
I completed my medical training in 1989 from the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. Following which I went to the UK for my post graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and became a member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1997.

1. Is St Nicholas still carrying out kidney transplant?
2. If yes, what is her success rate and approximate cost of the procedure?
3. What is the longest recorded duration your transplanted patient lived?
4. What are the available specialties in St Nicholas hospital?
5. Does St Nicholas have plans to make her services affordable to average Nigerians or are they meant for "ASO ROCK" patients?

Hello Dr Godwin Maduakor and let me first give my apologies for taking so long to reply. I will do my best to respond to your questions from 1 to 5, some of them are best answered by our clinical director Dr. Ebun Bamgboye but he is not here with me know.
1. Yes we are still carrying out Renal transplants and have done so for the past 16 years, so far we have done 165
2. The operation success rate is comparable to what obtains in some centers in India and might be better than some, the deposit for the procedure has recently been increased to N 6.5m due to increase in the price of medication and consumables we have to purchase
3. I am aware that our first transplant patient died within the past 18 months
4. We have the four major specialities and visiting specialists in most of the others ie neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, dermatology etc
5. Yes, our aim is to do our best to reduce the cost of our services by concentrating on volume without reducing quality of care. The challenges are mainly from 'external' factors like tax and the cost of doing any business in Nigeria.

please accept my apologies for taking so long to respond to your question.
I cannot categorically say which is better because I believe it depends on the individuals in the group practice or the other model. What i think is that it is a good idea to work as an employee for a time before setting up your own practice either on your own or in partnership. It is useful experience to have been on the other side of a situation and helps one to deal with what you will inevitable be faced with sometime in the future. That being said if you have a group practice of individuals with complimentary skills and maturity it should work well.
