Job Summary

The Medical Director is responsible for monitoring and improving the level of care provided to patients and help reduce operating costs/ managing budget of a healthcare facility over time. The Medical director is also responsible for patient care, clinical outcomes, and the implementation and oversight of the quality assessment and performance improvement program. Additionally, the medical director will work closely with the executive management team to implement strategies that enhance patient care and improve the medical practice.


The Medical Director coordinates the clinical teams, ensuring efficient operation of the facility, recruiting, and managing Nurses, doctors and other staff.








Consultant in any specialty


Valid MDCN practicing license



Two to Five years post residency experience.

Clinical Experience


Appropriate competencies and skills in any specialty





A research interest in area of expertise

Management and Administrative Experience


Evidence of leadership and management


Ability to carry out administrative duties in the department


Experience of risk management programmes

Job Description: 

Essential Functions

·        Provides medical direction and administration including, but not limited to, developing clinical practice guidelines.

·         Developing and updating hospital policy, emergency care procedures, protocols, and procedures, patient care policies as well as ensuring that adequate implementation of these processes is achieved according to predefined standards.

·         Provides oversight and review of the physician visits to ensure accurate billing.

·         Responsible for clinical professional assessment and monitoring of quality of care and services with the provision of regular reports to the management.

·         Supervising physicians, nurses, laboratory scientists and pharmacists; participates in quality improvement initiatives and programs; identifies opportunities for quality improvement in patient care and safety.

·         Participating and directing provider and medical care team meetings.

·         Working with pharmacy and lab managers to address mutual concerns.

·         Establishes positive relationships with local medical community and attend local medical functions.

·         Renders the necessary medical management, in consultation with the attending physician, consistent with the plan of care and the patient’s needs.

·         Contributes to positive atmosphere; demonstrates positive interactions with internal and external customers.

·         Assists with recruiting, mentoring and orientation of new clinical staff as assigned.

·         Offers suggestions to improve policies, procedures, and services in appropriate manner and time.

·         Ensure Continuous quality improvement.

·         Oversee and conduct clinical audits, antenatal and other programs.

·         Balancing the duties of physician with that of an administrator.

·         Ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of Medical care.

·          Ensuring that all healthcare regulations and safety standards are met.

·         Developing and maintaining hospital budget.
