Prof Olufemi Adelowo

Professor Femi Adelowo is a professor of Medicine and Consultant Rheumatologist.
He graduated from the University of Ibadan Medical School in 1973. He had his residency in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology in UCH Ibadan and St Bartholomew's Hospital London. This he completed in 1982 with FMCP thus, becoming the first physician in West Africa to specialise in this specialty. He was also the first West African professor of rheumatology.
He also has other fellowship awards, FWACP, FRCP Edin, FRCP Lond, FACR.He has the highest award in rheumatology specialty, Master Rheumatologist of the American College of Rheumatology( MACR)
He was the foundation Vice President of the African League of Associations of Rheumatology, AFLAR 1989-1994, and is the current president of the association. He is also the immediate past chairman of the world body of rheumatologists, ILAR.
He has worked and lectured at UCH, Ibadan, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Sultanate of Oman; LASUCOM, LASUTH. He has more than 80 publications in international and local journals. His landmark publications on such connective tissue diseases as SLE, Juvenile SLE, Inflammatory Myopathies, Sclerodema; rheumatoid arthritis are among the most cited on black Africans. His research and practice interests are in SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis , Scleroderma. Gout, Back Pain, Soft Tissue Rheumatism.
His hobbies are travelling , reading and watching National Geographic Channel on Television
