A broken or amputated limb isn't a death sentence

One of the many things which inspires and pushes us to do more is knowing that we're giving hope to many out there and letting them know wonderful things still happen in Nigeria.

Sure many of us have noticed the rise in the popularity and acceptability of Paralympics. In very recent years, Nigerians have been known to excel mainly in the Powerlifting (Weightlifting) part of this event. Other areas we have been represented include, football, athletics, table tennis, etc. The last of such event held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the summer of 2016 and it spanned through September 7 - September 18.

This post isn't to talk about the paralympics or how Nigeria has a country has improved in recent outings but it's to emphasize on that statement that there is ABILITY in DISABILITY.

So a project we have been working on for the past 4 years was able to be finally birthed this year. Cedarcrest will be locally manufacturing artificial limbs, and will ensure quality treatment of patients with disabilities especially the ones caused by Polio through our Prosthetic and Orthotics plant right here in Nigeria. We realised that it's a daunting task and doing it alone won't be easy. Hence, we partnered with Otto Bock from Germany who are leading makers of prosthetics devices worldwide and have also been at the forefront of Paralympic movement for about 30 years now.

With this move of hours, caring for and rehabilitating the disabled would be much better and also less expensive. We have been able to send 2 of our personnel to Otto bock in Germany for training and we will also be having support regularly from them too. This we did because we noticed that what has been lacking has been the lack of professionals.

What we have simply been able to do is bring the best services down here so medical tourism can be reduced, and we can also contribute our quota to the growth of the sport sector too this way. Hence, we believe we have hold the right to mention that anyone travelling abroad or seeking to do so in order to get Prosthetic services does so at a great disservice to his/herself.

We will bring more updates and progress reports come 2018. Stay tuned and don't stop believing in Nigeria.
