Regular health exams or tests otherwise known as checkups can help us find problems before they start. They also help find problems early, and your chances of treatment and cure are better at that stage most especially in cases of cancer, stroke and the likes. Cancer and stroke were given as examples because we just marked the world stroke day and the whole month of October is dedicated to breast cancer awareness campaign.

It is in light of this that we decided to provide enlightenment about the need for us as medical practitioners to also have medical checkups from time to time. You do know it's often times easy to tell people what to do and sound it in their ears from time to time, but we ourselves tend to find that same thing hard to do. Right?

We should let ourselves know that we aren't immune to diseases or illnesses and we are also susceptible.

In this age and time, sudden deaths are not uncommon and it will be heartbreaking if we, who should be at the forefront of educating consumers and patients on the need for regular medical checkups as a precaution to illness and sneaky diseases do not submit ourselves to collegues for a checkup.

By getting the right health services, screenings, treatments etc. You are taking steps that help your chances for living a longer, healthier life. This can't be over emphasized, but then we all know these already. However, we believe reminding us isn't a bad idea.

Lest we forget, please let's learn to carry our family members along too. Just like some children of clerics believe they don't have to pray believing the grace over their parents covers them, so also do we have children and family members who think all things or situations can be taken care of by their 'Mighty doctor' Mother or Father. :)

Lastly, we work too hard not to be able to devote and dedicate some quality time to rest and regain lost energy every now and then. REMEMBER, Doctors are humans and Doctors also fall sick. So dear doctor, do go for that eye test, take that prostate cancer screening, when was the last time you had a colon screening? That mammogram you’ve been neglecting is important and should be done now!

It’s time to take charge of your health! Schedule an appointment with your fellow doctors or healthcare provider and discuss what screenings and exams you need and when you need them.
