The Federal Government has commenced equipping 10, 000 healthcare centres, one in each political ward, with a view to improving healthcare service delivery to Nigerians, Minister of State for Health, Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire has said.

Speaking at the commissioning of an Intensive Care Unit at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Dala, Kano, Dr. Ehanire said the concept was aimed at taking healthcare service to the doorsteps of Nigerians.

The newly commissioned Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was constructed single handedly by a renowned philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, at the cost of over N100m.

Dr. Ehanire also said strike actions in the health sector caused frequent disruption of services to people which sometimes lead to death of many patients, but added that government was working hard to engage hospital workers associations in talks to address their grievances to avoid frequent industrial actions.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Dala, Dr. Muhammad Nuhu Salihu, said paucity of fund had been the major challenge of the hospital, explaining, "From 2013 to date, our annual budget only takes us to September, while we manage for the rest of the months."
