The peaceful demonstration of doctors in Imo State turned ugly yesterday when Dr Bende Azudialo a Consultant family physician at Federal Medical Centre Owerri, was allegedly shot in the head.
Doctors had come out to protest against the concessioning of State owned hospitals (both at the secondary and tertiary level) by the Imo State Government.
Following the incident, the Chairman of the Imo state branch of the Nigerian Medical association (NMA) Dr Emele Hyacinth, declared a three (3) day warning strike at a press confernce. Further more, he warned that if the policeman that fired the lethal shot was not identified and prosecuted, doctors will commence an indefinite industrial action.
Dr Azudialo who was said to have been initially rushed to Federal Mededical Centre Owerri, was later transferred to an undisclosed private hospital.
