Course description
PCCPC is a 1- day course consisting of case based didactic discussions, skills stations and a simulated component. Each 8-hour session day is a balance between practical sessions (part task trainers and simulations) and didactic lectures.
Core topics (DAY 1)
● Pediatric advanced life support (PALS, cardiac rhythm disturbances & pediatric resuscitation)
● Respiratory failure
● Pediatric shock (septic, cardiovascular)
● Pediatric trauma and burn injuries,
● Neurologic emergencies,
● Fluid, electrolytes derangement& endocrine emergencies (Pediatric DKA)
Topics were determined based on perceived needs assessment and knowledge gaps in pediatric critical care during my previous visits to Nigeria (http/pccmngr.org). Additional topics can be included by NPMCN-Peds. * Topics shall be presented as 45 min case-based discussions suitable for adult learners
Simulated component.
This component of PCCPC has appropriate cognitive variation and the practical skills sessions have a range of difficulty designed to match each participant’s level of training and experience. The emphasis of the simulation & skills sessions is to prepare general pediatricians and other pediatric subspecialists for management of acutely deteriorating pediatric patients before appropriate transfer to a tertiary facility can be arranged.
Participant’s knowledge of basic concepts of pediatric acute care is assessed with a pre- test; knowledge transfer after the course is also gauged by a post- test after the course.

o Laryngoscope & blade and other airway equipment
o Intraosseous legs
o Mannikins (simple fidelity mannikins) for skills training
