Medical Doctors in Osun State under the umbrella of Association of Medical and Dental Officers have suspended their Seven (7) month old strike. The industrial action commenced on September 28 last year due to the failure of the Osun State Governemnt to pay their monthly salaries and non-remittance of cooperative and contributory deductions from their salaries.

The Chairman of the association Dr Isiaka Adekunle confirmed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Osogbo, the state capital. Adekunle said the association took the decision at its Annual General Meeting on March 30. He also said none of their demands was met and they called off the strike out in response to appeals from residents.

Ther are a few questions?

1. What has been gained by the strike?

2. What has been lost?

3. Could the doctors have taken a different approach rather that embarking on the strike?

4. When willl Osun State fulfill their obligation to not only doctors in their employment but the other workers in the State?
