A health concern organisation, Calidad Human Health and Development Initiative has disclosed that a staggering 2400 children and 145 women die everyday as a result of malnutrition in Nigeria.

Ibrahim said that the said number of children from day one to five years and women die daily of malnutrition adding that multiplying the figure by 365 days of a year gave a scary signal of human catastrophe.

According to him, malnutrition has to do with lack of nutrition in the body adding that such situation results in the weakening of immune system, noting that the only way out was to eat nutritious food.

He noted that in the case of severe acute malnutrition the only hospitals could provide remedy unlike in the case of malnutrition that would be addressed by eating healthy food.

Calidad described malnutrition as a killer disease as the weakening of the body system due to lack of nutrition can lead to a number of killer diseases and no defence in the victims body to fight the disease.

He said against the backdrop of the fatalities recorded, parents must be taught how to made fortified food to reach their children nutrition’s requirements and reminded them on the significance of exclusive breastfeeding as it gives enough nutritional value to children.

He appreciated the efforts of the wife of the Nigeria’s president for speaking out about malnutrition, saying all relevant bodies should follow suit.
