Governor Ugwuanyi makes primary health priority

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has restated his readiness to continue to accord priority to all issues relating to health and well-being of the people of Enugu state.

Ugwuanyi stated this while flagging off the 2016 maternal and child health week organised by the state, UNICEF and other stakeholders, said he would make primary health care his priority and improve on other health sector in the state.

The governor who also settled the medical bills of some patients who were unable to make such payments after their discharge from the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, said his administration would continue to accord priority to primary health matters in the state and also sustain the programme despite the current economic situation in the country.

He commended all the stakeholders in the health sector specially the  UNICEF, World Health Organisation among others as he reafirms the state would not only continue to meet up with her counterpart funds but also provide enabling environment for the successful implementation of any health programme in the state.

He called on the mothers to take proper care of the children as they are the future leaders of this country and ensure that they key into the health programmes lined up in the state for primary health care .
“I am here for the voice of the voiceless” he said.

According to the governor, the programme offers a week-long package of events conceived to deliver an integrated plan of promotional and preventive service that are both cost-effective and useful for fostering maternal, newborn and child health in the society.

The state’s commissioner for health, Sam Ngwu, commended institutional partners for their unrelenting commitment to rid the
society of debilitating illnesses such as polio, asthma, among others.

Also, Director Public Health Services, Enugu State Ministry of Health, Okechukwu  Osai, said the one-week activities would cost about N20 million to carry out the one week program which include dispensing of drugs, immunization, health talks, instructions that would take place at various health centers in all the LGAs.

He commended the state government for providing sufficient funds and other necessary logistics for the week-long programme and urged the people to avail themselves of the opportunity.
