The Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative (SURPIN) of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in collaboration with the counseling unit of the College of Medicine University of Lagos held a campus awareness campaign on depression, suicide and drug abuse, similar to the one SURPIN held earlier in the year in University of Lagos, Akoka.

The event held on Wednesday 8th November 2017. It was flagged off at 11:10 am by the Provost, Prof. Afolabi Lesi, in the company of the members of SURPIN led by Dr. Raphael Ogbolu, the head of department of psychiatry and head of the counseling unit of the college, Prof. Aina, ably represented by Dr. Babatunde Fadipe, the COMPSSA president Ayoade Triple, and the AMSUL president Uduak, as well as students, who carried the banner. From there the awareness walk took off, with a lively music band providing nice, attracting tunes, past the back gate, via the visitor’s lodge, quarters, primary school, onto the female and male hostels. Along the way enlightenment fliers were given out, and at both hostels the students were addressed in the central area/quadrangle using a public address system.

It provided an avenue to let the students know about depression and to know that suicide is never the answer, rather they were encouraged to call the counseling unit or SURPIN for help.
